This Monday, November 25, France and Kenya signed an agreement to strengthen the ties of the two countries. Mayotte is directly concerned since it is the territory geographically closest to Kenya.
The Secretary of State responsible for Francophonie and international partnerships, Thani Mohamed Soilihi, signed this agreement in the presence of the Kenyan Minister of Blue Economy, Mines and Maritime Affairs, Salim Mvurya and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Kenya.
Mayotte is the central point of this partnership, and this is the reason why the Mayotte Development and Innovation Agency (ADIM) is directly associated with it. The neighboring country is represented by la Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI).
The first important axis of this partnership agreement is the Daraja project, which means “bridge” in Swahili and Mahorese. “It is not only an economic project, but a symbol of the human and cultural bridge that we wish to build between Mayotte and Kenya. We are building this bridge to open new commercial routes, to encourage cross investments and offer co-development opportunities to our companies and our talents”specifies Zamimou Ahamadi, 5th vice-presidentresponsible for Finance and European Affairs at the departmental council of Mayotte.
The Daraja project focuses on sectors that have been identified as priorities for Mayotte and Kenya. These are the blue economy, sustainable agriculture and agri-food, digital technology, innovation and tourism. “These areas bring not only growth, but also social and economic transformation for our populations”added Zamimou Ahamadi.
