The inhabitants of Gers will have to face a considerable increase in their insurance contributions in 2025, according to information reported by La Dépêche du Midi. A retired couple living in Preignan recently discovered that the annual cost of their insurance would increase from €1,140 to €1,488, an increase of 27%.
This situation is all the more difficult as their retirement pensions will only increase by 0.9% over the same period. To mitigate the impact, they were forced to reduce the guarantees on one of their vehicles, despite having a claims-free profile and optimal insurance bonuses.
The climate crisis and the costs of materials involved
Insurers justify these increases by the increase in natural disasters, such as floods and hail, which are increasingly frequent and destructive. The cost of repairs has also jumped due to rising prices for materials and labor. Furthermore, the tax on natural disaster guarantees levied by the State will also increase significantly in 2025, going from 12% to 20% for home insurance.
In this context, insurance companies could even be forced to refuse to cover certain particularly affected areas of the Gers in the future, making the situation even more complex for the inhabitants of this department.
