Domestic violence: It's moving and it's spreading beyond Isère

“Our ambition is to spread our action in the Rhône-Alpes region.” Denis Laquaz, retired architect is the founder of theIsère association, It’s moving. Created in 2020 in Bernin and now based in Sassenageit helps women victims of domestic violence from the region. In three years the number of women assisted increased from 57 to 137 plus 158 children. “This year, we should have around 130 women”believes the president.

The latter now wishes to be able to extend the scope of action beyond the borders of Isère:

“Firstly in , my daughter Perrine takes care of the launch, explains Denis Laquaz. In Chambéry, we have an antenna which is being launched by volunteers. We also have contacts in Bourgoin-Jallieu and we would like to go to and then to other departments with the ambition of covering the Rhône-Alpes region.”

Thursday November 21, 2024, the association, which is part of the national program, They are movingof the Women's Foundationinaugurated its new premises in Sassenage. With a surface area of ​​563 m2they allow stocker a large numberof furniture, household appliances, disheslinen… These goods collected mainly from individualsare intended for women and their children who have left their violent home and who, after a stay in emergency accommodation, have managed to obtain new accommodation in their name, to be furnished.

The association has a hundred volunteers including 40 particularly active, as well as three employees. Since 2023, it has also provided a free moving/moving service. Volunteers prioritize moments “where the gentleman is not there, nor his in-laws” to proceed with the move.

The victims' belongings are stored in secure locations, in particular thanks to the solidarity land cooperative, A roof for all. They are kept while the victim resides in emergency or temporary accommodation. “Then, when she obtains accommodation in her name, we help her move in and she comes to us to complete what she is missing.”

Cost of acquisition of new premises in Sassenage: 525,000 euros

Before moving to Sassenage, the association was based in Grenoble where it had 178 m². Which was largely insufficient. The Endowment Fund Cancommitted to helping women in distress at the national level, bought the new premises in Sassenage which it rents for a relatively small amount to the association. THE cost of the acquisition amounts to 525 000 euros. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region contributed to financing the development work and equipping the premises.

The association has an annual budget of 200,000 euros, thanks to the support of public actors (State, Metropolis, City of Grenoble, Grésivaudan, CAF, etc.) and private foundations. Ultimately, Denis Laquaz wishes professionalize the structure so that it can rely primarily on its employees.
