Support in Meurthe-et- for victims of domestic violence

On this international day to combat violence against women, Bleu Sud Lorraine is devoting a file on supporting victims of domestic violence. In Meurthe-et-, there are several associations that help them: Arélia, the CIDFF and France Victimes 54. The latter has also supported 1,124 women since the start of the year.

In the department, 3919, emergency number for alert on cases of domestic violence often switches to the Arélia association. She suggests 15 emergency accommodation places of collective type, and 17 broadcast accommodation placeswithout forgetting the day reception. “Either it allows women to verbalize what they are experiencing, either because they are seeking information, or because they need help to escape the home, or to work with them over the long term. and direct them as much as possible towards the different partners of the different networks fighting against violence against women“, explains Mélanie Mathey, head of the reception, accommodation and integration department.

This day center is made up of a team of four social workers, trained to listen to victims of domestic violence. The vast majority of them are women, more and more willing to indulge. “In any case, they name it more easilycorrects Estelle Poterlot, coordinator at Arélia. “On other services of the association, sometimes the entry point is not domestic violence. As a result, with our a little sharper eye and the way we approach things in a little more normal way In fact, people come to talk about it more easily.”

But the filing of complaints remains marginal. “Of women who are victims of rape, for example, only 6% of women will file a complaint, reports Valérie Jurin, president of CIDFF 54. Because they are sometimes in a situation of fragility and mistrust in relation to what will happen to them, in relation to the reception which has greatly improved in the police stations. And then also a form of distrust in the judicial system. Justice is working, we see that it is evolving, but it is not yet won.
