Storm Caetano has barely left, followed by storm Bert which paralyzed the United Kingdom. Wind gusts may occasionally reach 80 to 90 km/h and up to 120 km/h in the mountains and on exposed seaside coasts.
On Sunday, November 24, the wind began to blow on certain French coasts such as the Basque Country, Brittany and Nord-Pas-de-Calais. At Cap Blanc-Nez, about fifteen kilometers from Calais, the wind gusts reach 110 km/h to the delight of walkers. And if the gusts of wind delight water sports enthusiasts, others are worried, like the traders at a market in Caen (Calvados). “With the wind, it’s a little complicated to unpack”confides David Henquel, usher at the city of Caen.
The gusts caused by Bert in Ireland and the United Kingdom extend over a large part of France. The intensity of the phenomenon is less strong than the storm affecting the British Isles, but Météo-France has placed nine French departments on orange vigilance and 55 on yellow vigilance. These winds, which can reach 120 km/h, could stop on the afternoon of Monday, November 25, but 13 train lines will be stopped in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
