Belvès raises its head against Villeneuve-sur-Lot

Between the red lantern and the fifth place in the group, we could expect an unbalanced match on Sunday, November 24. It was nothing of the sort. The match was tense, with a first period where the two scorers stood out: Baille for the local side and Valy for the visitors.

The start of the match was marked by a lot of indecision, the defenses taking precedence over the attacks, and a few handballs spoiled the initiatives on both sides. With a crossover up to 9-9. In the 26th minute, the Périgourdins took the advantage (12-9) thanks, again, to their number 15.

The only try of this first period was scored by a twist of fate. Baille's penalty, slowed down by the violent wind, hit the post and winger Gibily, who had followed, flattened it opportunistically, under the noses of the Lot-et-Garonnais defenders.

The second half was sterile for a long time. The Belvédois forwards ended up sounding the charge with pillar Pasquet at the spearhead, being aggressive in attacking the line. As for the visitors, they lost four balls in the lineout in scoring areas. This deficit in conquest was detrimental to them.

The Lot-et-Garonnaise three-quarter line then tried its luck several times, but came up against an impervious local defense. The confrontation was tough and the Belvésois, with the wind at their backs, dominated the debates. They ended up getting their reward via the returning scrum half, Chazeaud, who came to conclude a long pick and go job.

The Belvésois had their third victory of the season and future visitors will need a lot of courage to win at Sem-Gallet.

The opinion of Sébastien Salles (captain of Villeneuve-sur-Lot). “We missed out on our match and I would like to congratulate Belvès on this deserved victory. We shot ourselves in the foot. We were absent in terms of combat and aggressiveness, weak in conquest. We couldn't compete with the locals who played the right match. »

The opinion of Nicolas Bardet (third line of Belvès). “I’m proud of the whole group. We had marked this match, which was a decisive match for us. We were present in terms of commitment and in the intensity that we were able to display. The defense, which we have been working on for several weeks, was effective. We needed to get our heads back on track, and we did. Our state of mind is finally rewarded. »
