Gunshots were heard in the Pairi Daiza wildlife park this Sunday afternoon.
“Multiple detonations at the Pairi daiza animal park, and an entire area of the park is closed” around 4 p.m., Loïc, a visitor, alerted us this Sunday afternoon via the orange Alert us button.
According to our information, a fight actually broke out between two bears. These bears came to confront each other, as can happen in nature, Pairi Daiza explained. The first was obviously particularly aggressive towards the second. The keepers tried to intervene to separate the bears and decided to fire blank bullets to scare the animals or distract them.
This technique obviously did not bear fruit since one of the bears killed the other.
Although they were not put in danger “at no time”visitors were kept away from the premises, which explains the closure noted by our alert Loïc.
These bears were born in captivity. There are around ten of them living in this area.
