Is elected with a lead of 208 votes: Glenda Gonzalez Bassi is the new mayor, mayor of Bienne. On the left for half a century, with Hermann Fehr, his son Erich and between the two, the emblematic Hans Stöckli, the town hall of Bienne maintains this historic course.
But above all, she becomes French-speaking and feminine, two assets acquired before the election, with a candidate of Chilean origin from an immigrant background and one of American origin from Vaud.
Woman, French-speaking or socialist, what is her primary quality? “The three are inseparable,” responds elected official Glenda Gonzalez Bassi.
In the first round, the socialist Glenda Gonzalez Bassi obtained 5,348 votes, against 4,921 for the radical Natasha Pittet. The campaign gained intensity with a controversial decision by the authorities: removing 22 parking spaces in the blue zone in favor of a cycle path in the Tilleuls district after promising residents to only remove half of them.
In the end, Glenda Gonzalez Bassi received 5,848 votes, against 5,640 for her competitor. To console itself, the PLR can turn to another municipality on Lake Bienne: in La Neuveville, the radical Luca Longo became mayor at the age of 24!
