“We must save Departmental 25! »

HAS On the occasion of her trip on November 7, 2024 to Blainville-sur-Mer, in Manche, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention Agnès Pannier-Runacher unveiled the list of twelve winners of the call for projects Nature-based solutions to adapt coastal territories to erosion. Two of them are in Charente-Maritime. The commune of La Tremblade and the Community of communes of Île de Ré have, in fact, caught the attention of the State (read our edition of November 9, 2024).

This call for projects system aims to financially support coastal municipalities in the implementation of their operations to slow down the retreat of the coastline and redevelopment of the coastline by prioritizing “nature-based solutions” using ecological engineering. .

“It’s a chance for us. Our coastline is retreating several meters each year. This phenomenon threatens Departmental Road 25 which connects Ronce-les-Bains, our seaside resort, to Mathes La Palmyre, at the Embellie and Galon d’or beaches,” recalls the mayor of La Tremblade, Laurence Osta Amigo , who says he became aware of this during studies carried out as part of the Sustainable Development of Resorts and Beaches initiatives. The elected official affirms that if nothing is done today to anticipate the advance of the sea, “we could find ourselves without a road in ten to fifteen years. We absolutely must save her! » And we're not talking about the Vélodyssée cycle path which also runs along the coastline at this location.

Overall aid of 2.8 million euros

A plan to slow erosion and contain, as far as possible, the erosion of the ocean was therefore put in place. It consists of removing parking spaces present as close as possible to the two beaches of Embellie and Galon d'Or and renaturalizing the site to build a natural barrier. This involves, for example, recovering dead tree stumps to position them on the facade in order to re-silt and recreate a small dune. Reducing the footprint of the car park will make it possible to de-waterproof the ground. A development of access using ganivelle and the creation of a pedestrian promenade between the two beaches are also in the works. Just like the relocation of the Vélodyssée. Gros Jonc Beach, in Portes-en-Ré, the project consists of restoring a flat oyster reef.

The renaturation of the site will consist, among other things, of recovering stumps to try to recreate a protective dune.

“We have already removed around twenty parking spaces from the Embellie car park this summer. In this project, we are supported by the GIP (Public Interest Group) Littoral. The National Forestry Office will be responsible for the renaturation work,” underlines the mayor of La Tremblade. The cost of the project is estimated at 640,000 euros. The State, via the call for projects, will soften the bill. How high? “We don’t know yet,” replies Laurence Osta Amigo. The twelve selected projects must share a total budget of 2.8 million euros.
