The Local Victim Assistance Committee (Clav), made up of 31 Mayenne organizations (prefecture, security and rescue forces, Regional Health Agency, National Education, associations, etc.), met on Friday November 22, 2024. three days before the National Day to Combat Violence Against Women, this annual meeting was an opportunity to take stock of domestic violence in Mayenne.
“The number of interventions will increase by 20% in 2024”, announces Marie-Aimée Gaspari, prefect of Mayenne. An increase in violence or freedom of speech? “Difficult to define”, explains the prefect. “As of October 31, the police have already intervened in 747 situations of domestic violence compared to 751 for the whole of 2023.” Interventions which mainly take place between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Sustained judicial activity
“Judicial activity is sustained, announces Anne-Lyse Jarthon, public prosecutor, who recalls that the year 2024 saw a domestic homicide. Between 1is January and October 31, 2024, 182 accountability courses were ordered as part of alternative measures to prosecution, 278 domestic violence proceedings were judged by the Laval criminal court and 188 perpetrators of domestic violence were the subject of unironing. Regarding judicial systems for the protection of victims of domestic violence, 23 serious danger telephones and 2 anti-reconciliation bracelets have been allocated since 1is January 2024.” A center specializing in the fight against domestic violence was created in February 2024 at the Laval court.
Taxi vouchers and emergency assistance
Among the systems deployed in the department, good taxis allow women victims of violence to leave their homes quickly. “Some women do not have a license, it is a system which is essential in a rural department”, underlines the prefect. 13 vouchers have been published by the Enosia association for the moment in 2024.
Another system deployed over the past year, the emergency aid paid by the Caf (Family Allowance Fund) has been activated 70 times since the start of the year, for an average amount of €864.
In terms of prevention, and particularly for young people, a quiz has been created to alert people to dysfunctions in couples.
