After installing automatic doors and installing around fifty video surveillance cameras in 2018, the SNCF is once again carrying out work at the Aulnoye station, in the North. The building will soon be brand new, both inside and out.
In Aulnoye, things are happening everywhere. In rue de Maubeuge, where housing is planned. Also near the 8-Mai district, formerly the Havré block. In the city center, with the construction of commercial units (Action, Burger King…). But also at the station, whose main building is currently being renovated. It's impossible not to notice it when you pass by.
A large white tarpaulin covers the entire building. “The scaffolding was installed a few weeks ago. We are carrying out a facade renovation”notes Stéphane Depret, production director of the DRG Hauts-de-France Normandie in the development center.
On the program: repointing, cleaning the bricks… “A good clean.” If the forecourt side will be completely redone, so will the quay side. “It’s the same, we redo the joints, we clean the bricks continues Stéphane Depret. We will also replace the canopy plates. Everything will be new, especially since we had already changed the joinery and installed automatic doors in 2018. We are in continuity.”
Once the exterior has been restored (by March 2025), the SNCF will continue with another project. “We plan to renovate the interior of the station immediately.” The Salle des Pas Perdus and the ticket office will thus be modernized. “We are going to reduce the surface area of the ticket office, which will make it possible to enlarge the hall.” The entire paneling section at ceiling level will be removed.
A brand new station in the North
“We are going to open it to reveal the metal structures of the roof. It will be very pretty.” The floor of the Salle des Pas Perdus will be redone, and comfortable seats will be installed. “There will also be a clean-up. And thanks to this work, the passenger building will be accessible and brought up to PMR standards.”
Please note that the sales office will be relocated outside the station during the work. Works worth 1,600,000 euros. “We will start a new project in 2028 with the provision of PMR accessibility to the four platforms. The latter will be raised and equipped with four elevators”announces Stéphane Depret.
