Villeneuve-sur-Lot. La Corrida des Pruneaux presents its check to 1000 & 1 dreams

Something promised, something due. It's been a little over a month since the 9th edition of the Corrida des Pruneaux enchanted the heart of Villeneuve. Fashion show, culinary competition and of course a race through the alleys of the bastide, this 2024 edition was praised by the participants. “A record year, with 540 runners taking part in the ekiden” smiles Sylvain Mauron, kingpin of the Corrida. A fluid organization made possible by the involvement of Maison Roucadil and the Brotherhood of the Mid-Night Prune of Saint-Luc, but not only that. “Without them, there is no event” supports Sylvain Mauron, kingpin of the Corrida. “Them” are the volunteers. Around sixty are mobilized during the sports day, in particular to mark the 5 kilometer course, on both banks.

Volunteers from the Villeneuvois Athletic Stadium, under the leadership of President Jean-Pierre Schieffer, from the Volunteer Club of the City of Villeneuve but also from the charitable association 1,000 & 1 children's dreams, led by Marie-Christine Le Maître . Around fifteen of them were mobilized, for a good cause. Because with this participation, €1 from each bib was donated to the structure which brightens the daily lives of sick and hospitalized children. Do your calculations, with 540 registered, it is therefore a check for 540 euros which was given to the Villeneuvois association.

While it is still time to take stock of this record edition, the organizers are also looking to the future. 2025 will mark the 10th edition of the Corrida. For now, ideas are flowing through the heads of the organizers. The logistics are cumbersome and require a large investment from volunteers. But given the success experienced in October 2024, it is certain that most runners are already waiting for the dates of the 10th Corrida!
