Metropolis of Lyon. A soon to be revamped metro stations in Villeurbanne

The metro stations, most of them built in the 1970s and 1980s, are vintage. To give them a facelift, Sytral has been renovating them little by little since 2015, particularly on lines A and B.

A little over 5.7 million euros

After the Hôtel de Ville, Part-Dieu, Charpennes and Bellecour stations, now is the time to revamp Foch (Lyon 6th), République, Gratte-Ciel and Flachet-Alain Gilles. Cost of all the work: a little over 5.7 million euros.

“Urban poetry” at République

A fresco by artist Julien Soone will adorn the walls of République station. On this fresco, peonies, animals or even an urban jungle in the colors of France: blue, white and red. According to Sytral, everything calls for “introspection”: “Waiting becomes a soothing meditation”.

The work should begin next month and end in October 2025. It would cost 1.4 million euros.

“Let’s rewild ourselves”, at Gratte-Ciel

“A dream forest, populated by words and lyrics” would appear at the Gratte-Ciel station. Words “imbued with poetry” and “bewitching expressions”, according to Sytral which also describes “landscapes evoking childhood tales”.

The work, budgeted at 1.37 million euros, would begin in the second quarter of 2025 and last ten months.

“Do you remember?” » to Flachet-Alain Gilles

The work which will cover the walls of Flachet station is entitled “Alley-oop”. It “combines the vocabulary of the architect Mario Botta” (to whom we owe the Maison du livre, de l’image et du Son de Villeurbanne) and that of sports fields in reference to Alain Gilles, emblematic basketball player of Asvel”. Ceramic tiles, geometric shapes, optical effects but also striped facades will be in order. Just like bright colors.

Here too, the work is planned for ten months and would begin in the second quarter of 2025. Their cost? 1.67 million euros.

Finally, in the 6^e district of Lyon, the Foch station is also getting a makeover from next month. The Sytral would offer “an immersive adventure” in black and white reminiscent of the world of comics. Budget: 1.3 million euros.
