“One in two feminicides is committed in a rural area.” Patricia Boidin, the mayor of Anneyron, concluded her speech this Saturday early in the afternoon near the lake of the town's pond, before the march started. Other demonstrations were organized in Drôme and Ardèche this Saturday, two days before international day for the elimination of violence against womenNovember 25th.
White ribbon on the down jacket
“This year, the organizers of this march wanted to focus on this phenomenon” of rurality, insists Patricia Boidin, a white ribbon, symbol of the international fight against violence against women, attached to the down jacket. The one who is also a departmental advisor in Drôme continues: “As everyone knows each other in the countryside, things are known quickly and we therefore tend to keep quieter. Today, the meaning of [cette marche] is to say, let us be a city dweller or a rural dweller, we have absolutely the same rights to information and protection.”
The information center on the rights of women and families (CIDFF) collected donations, the Portes de DrômArdèche Community of Communes, at the origin of the event, committed to double the total amount. Around a hundred people took part in the walk of around 3 km in Anneyron. They were more than 50 in Valence, 80 in Montélimar and 80 in Privasaccording to police. A demonstration was also organized in Pöet-Sigillat, in the Baronnies Provençales, this Saturday morning. In Aubenas, several reading or self-defense discovery workshops were held during the day.
