The procession of the ministerial delegation arrived around 3:30 p.m. on the Audinet plain, ravaged five weeks earlier by the flood of the Loire. The mayors of other affected municipalities, such as Coubon or Les Estables drowned by the deluge of the Cévenol episode, were able to explain the actions put in place to limit the damage and protect the populations. Around fifty firefighters from the departmental fire and rescue service took over the lawn of the football stadium for an official ceremony. Master Sergeant Jérémy Besson, Sergeant Dylan Royer and Corporal Sylvain Teyssier were decorated with the medal for acts of courage and dedication. Their commitment made it possible to save two lives: that of a woman swept away by the waters in Mazet-Saint-Voy who managed to cling to a tree and that of a man, stuck in his car in Saint-Julien- des-Chazes.
In his speech, the Minister of the Interior praised the importance of “all the links in the chain of civil security”: forecasting, prevention with alert messages, the backup plan, evacuations and rescue interventions. “Without that, we would have had dozens of deaths. » He ended his speech by addressing the firefighters: “You are the hope of a society that places duty above rights. »
