70% for, 22% against and 8% who say they are indifferent. This is the clear verdict of the online consultation carried out by the City of Cergy with parents, residents and the educational community around the question of the (partial) pedestrianization of rue de l'Orangerie, which serves the Hazay school and nursery.

Favor journeys on foot

This largely positive feedback follows the experiment carried out from September 23 to October 4. Part of Avenue de l'Orangerie had been made available to pedestrians on school days, from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and from 4:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. Two weeks during which trips on foot increased by 8% while trips by car fell by 33%, a drop of a third in the number of motorized vehicles.

With the support of parents, local residents and members of the educational community, the system Children's streetthat's its name, will be continued until the end of the school year, starting next January. The initiative aims “to guarantee a safer environment for schoolchildren while encouraging travel on foot, by bike or by scooter” says the City of Cergy.

So that the new situation does not cause a mess, the municipality will make some adjustments in terms of parking. Avenue du Hazay, the three spaces reserved for taxis and paratransit will be expanded to include people with reduced mobility, particularly parents with children. Avenue de l'Orangerie, two parking spaces dedicated to people with reduced mobility, including parents with children, will be provided. Finally, the City says it is “considering other parking solutions in order to best meet the needs of parents”.
