” It is a new adventurein the continuity of the comic strip. » Claude Guibout is tireless. After having carried out the project of a comic strip retracing the history of the small village of La Carneille (Orne) for almost two years, the history enthusiast took on a new challenge: revive the 70 businesses who were in the village at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.

A sign on each business

For this, the Carneillais wishes to affix a sign on the building which housed the old business. The plaque would be located at the door and would consist of a photo, if possible, and explanatory text.

How did he come up with the idea? “While doing my hiking tour on the history of La Carneille, I said to myself: we could do a retrospective. The idea is to revive these people who brought the village to life. » Additional motivation: “my maternal grandfather was born here. »

Research work in the village

Claude Guibout is currently in full activity trying to break through the secrets of the village's history. Who ? Or ? What ? Research work. In his business, he is helped by Gilles Branchat, secretary of the La Carneille en histoire association.

We go door to door to talk with the elders of the town. We query and retrieve information. Everyone talks, so we learn things.

Even at the other end of : “I received a message from . The person wrote to me that her grandmother ran the grocery store, while her husband repaired bicycles. »

Professions that have disappeared today

As a starting point, the history buff uses a list of all the trades present in La Carneille in 1926found in personal archives.

“We discover professions that have disappeared. Saddler, farrier, wheelwright, cooper… These are extraordinary know-how“, enthuses Claude Guibout. “There was even a country guard at the time with a drum. »

And work of the past to maintain, enrich and promote the historical heritage knowledge of the village of Carneille.
