Vendée. The startup Anod innovates with its “bike of tomorrow”

Anod offers an innovative and ecological bike

The first product from the start-up Anod is an electric bicycle entirely produced in , whether for research, construction of parts and assembly. relies on new technologies, and one of them was designed for cars then adapted to cycling, as Arnaud Malrin, co-founder of the startup, explains.

“We have a motor that does regenerative braking…”

“What is visible is the battery. Afterwards, we manage to do that because we have developed a lot of technology… Why are we talking about a hybrid bike? Because we have a motor that does regenerative braking . Every time you brake, you recover braking energy, but to get to this engine, there were many years of R&D. This motor consumes much less energy than current electric bicycle motors…”

This system allows you, even if you no longer have battery power, to continue to have light assistance. The bicycle is based on new technologies and it wants to be more “vert“particularly at the battery level, the most polluting element.

Anod worked a lot on a ecological and recyclable supercapacitor.

“We have the super capacitor pack, which looks like a big battery, except there’s no lithium in it.”

“We have two energy storage systems: the battery but there is no lithium battery which is 100% recyclable, lithium is 70% recyclable. On the other hand, the second energy storage system which we a, the super capacitor pack, looks like a big battery, except there's no lithium in it. It's just aluminum and coal that is 100% recyclable with a lifespan of less than 15 years. Afterwards, it's like everything, it has to go through a third party whereas lithium, even if you give it to an organization, it can be recycled at best 70%.”

The supercapacitor helps back up a battery, lithium this time, which fits in your pocket: it weighs the weight of an iPad and is rechargeable via USB-C. You will be able to say goodbye to the huge battery which weighed several kilos.

The startup has obtained €310,000 in aid from the Region for its commitment to the region, the bikes are in fact produced in Fontenay-le-Comte in Vendée.

The bike can already be pre-ordered on the website at a price of around €3,500. The first will be delivered in early 2025.
