For the fortieth consecutive year, the French Federation of Food Banks is organizing its national collection throughout the country. This year, it will take place Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 November in 53 small, medium and large stores throughout Loir-et-Cher, in Blois, Vendôme, Romorantin, but also Onzain, Montrichard, Mer, Lamotte -Beuvron, Le Controis and many other towns.
Increasing needs
This national collection is “a meeting of solidarity and citizenship” made possible by the mobilization of volunteers from partner associations, “Last year, there were 900 of us in total,” further specifies Annie Arnaud, head of the Loir-et-Cher Food Bank.
A large-scale operation which makes it possible to collect between 10 and 15% of annual needs which are redistributed to local associations, such as associations helping the poor, CCAS, solidarity grocery stores, etc.
All shelf-stable products and non-perishable foods, but also hygiene products (shower gel, shampoo, razors, toothbrushes, sanitary towels) or baby products are welcome.
53 tonnes of products collected in 2023
Supported people have increased by 30% since 2018, “over the first two quarters of 2024, this number even started to increase again, after stabilizing in 2023”, further indicates the Food Bank. Which reminds that in 2023 in Loir-et-Cher, 53 tonnes of collected products were distributed to 25 approved partner associations “but demand has increased by almost 10% since last year, we hope that the generosity of the Loir-et-Chériens will allow us to cope. »
