The diversion of Saint-Georges-sur-Loire, near Angers (Maine-et-Loire) is postponed. This is what the Department's roads service tells us. Clearly, this file is postponed… until later. This project, which has existed for more than twenty years, aims to divert most of the 8,000 vehicles, including a large number of trucks, which pass through the town every day.
A cost of 4.5 million euros
Financing is the major obstacle to this project, estimated at 4.5 million euros. If the Department has given its agreement to cover 50% of the cost, if the municipality agrees to advance 1.2 million euros, the Loire-Layon-Aubance community of municipalities does not want to put its hand in to the wallet.
The end of this type of project which devours agricultural land
Hence the postponement of this project… which takes on the appearance of a discreet funeral. Because it faces strong opposition for obvious reasons of ecology and the economy of agricultural land. It is also the end of this type of project whose costs continue to increase.
Postponed until later, the cost of the project will then be much higher than the current 4.5 million euros. Knowing that today, a new road costs on average two million euros per kilometer.
