Champagnole & Region. A first thriller for Philippe Bétry | Jura: all the local information

Philippe Bétry is already the author of a certain number of works.

For what have you launched into this dark thriller?

In my career I have written thousands of lines, published a few works or participated in others but this is the first time (at 77 years old!) that I have launched into a novel, a work of imagination! Everything came from a proposal from Constance Rameau, whose latest books (Torgnoles à Champagnole and Rififi à Monthury) from the “Le Jura noir” collection I had reviewed: she suggested that I participate in this collection and write a thriller. I took this as a sort of challenge, not being sure I could do it or have enough imagination to see it through to the end. Finally, I was able to complete the affair, respecting certain criteria of the collection, in particular by evoking various historical or artistic aspects of the Jura… but above all by finding the twists and turns intended to sustain attention. At least that's what I tried to do. Afterwards, it's up to the reader to say whether I succeeded or not.

What is your wish in highlighting the Lédonian writer, Marcel Grancher?

He is a writer that I know quite well and who is unfortunately today well forgotten, even though he had extraordinary print runs. At the end of the 70s – beginning of the 80s, I was one of those who carried out actions to remember his memory, both through cultural events (awarding of an annual literary prize) and gastronomic events (awarding of the prize from gourmets to restaurateurs). Perhaps this new spotlight, indirectly, will finally bring it up to date?

Future titles are announced in the series, all worked on by you?

Nothing has been decided. Maybe there will be, maybe not… Maybe other authors will join in for the following titles. And the next different titles! It will depend on the inspiration of the moment. In any case, it is the editor Daniel Ziv and Constance Rameau who can decide.
