Sophie Henon, the president of the Somme table tennis committee, talks to us about an environment she has always known and the hopes she has for the future of this sport.
Sophie Henon took part in the game at the head of the Somme committee. We met her on the evening of the Brandicourt challenge awards in Amiens, proud and happy to represent the Somme table tennis committee. During the challenge presentations, two young table tennis players were indeed honored by the CDOS and Sophie Henon chairing the departmental committee who did not want to miss this moment.
Elected two years ago, Sophie Henon retraced her sporting career focused mainly on table tennis, a sporting discipline practiced by several members of her family. She testifies: “I have always been surrounded by table tennis. My father was treasurer of the Amiens club, my brother played in the first team at this club. Jacques Hélaine was a friend and he came to the house regularly. I still play and my son has taken over. How did I become president of the departmental committee? Quite simply following the resignation of Romain Revaux two and a half years ago and I was a member of the committee. Our headquarters is in this Maison des Sports where we have our committee meetings. In the Somme, we currently have 42 clubs for around 2000 members. Our best club is of course ASTT. »
For Sophie Henon, The place of women in sport and table tennis is not yet obvious, which she regrets a little. Indeed, she would like parity to be even betterif only at committee level: “The day there is truly parity, only then will there be no more difference”.
This season, the department committee noted with satisfaction the start of a women's departmental championship, which had not been the case for a long time. Following this and partly thanks to the Lebrun brothers who did enormous good to the discipline, the Olympics effect also had rather beneficial effects on table tennis : “During the Games, TV and the media showed that table tennis was really a real sport. with the show, the staging, the play of lights etc. » she declared.
We wish this professor of history and geography at the college of Moreuil to successfully continue her activity at the head of the Somme table tennis committee.
