Around thirty members of Young Farmers and the National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA) from the cantons of Courçon-d'Aunis, Aigrefeuille, La Rochelle and Île de Ré arrived with two tractors, without clashes. They intended to express their anger at the Attal government's “broken promises” and the planned trade agreement between Europe and five Latin American countries making up Mercosur. An agreement that they denounce as “unfair competition” detrimental to their farms.
During the nights of Tuesday to Wednesday and Wednesday to Thursday, they took entrance signs from municipalities (Périgny, Dompierre-sur-Mer, Clavette, etc.) which they exposed this Friday to the view of passers-by on the quay Duperré. Traffic sign covering operations were also on the afternoon program. The day before, they had placed compost from sewage treatment plant sludge and intended for agricultural spreading under the windows of the La Rochelle urban community, in Périgny.
