Laurent Polge succeeded Jean-Louis Rey as president of the Hérault Tennis committee.
It’s a logical continuation in Laurent Polge’s volunteer “career”! During the general assembly of the Hérault tennis committee, the vice-president of the committee for eight years, succeeded Jean-Louis Rey who, after four mandates, had chosen to leave the presidency.
The man has tennis in his heart, for more than thirty years in the departmental and regional authorities. “I started tennis at 7 or 8 years old, in a small club in the Cévennes.“Gardois before crossing the Vidourle. “I never had any particular ambitions; I found myself club president, in Palavas, without having the desire to be so and I also had no idea of one day becoming president of the committee. “
“I like acting for my sport”
Circumstances mean that one day we commit, explains Laurent Polge: “II have always loved organizing competitions and acting for my sport. When I was a child, a teenager, we held the Olympic Games in the neighborhood with friends and I was the one who organized. But hey, chairing a committee isn't just about organizing competitions.”
Laurent Polge listed areas of work starting with more training for referees and referees. “We have already anticipated this issue. We must then encourage and support young people in their progress by offering them the best possible conditions”.
The International Women's Open on pause
Other points, supporting the development of new associated disciplines – padel, beach tennis, pickleball – which are accessible and attractive, while strengthening paratennis (wheelchair tennis, adapted sport).”to build a sport that is more inclusive and accessible to all. My desire is therefore to create a wheelchair tennis competition on this mandate.”
The season, on the other hand, will be blank for the women and the Montpellier International Open which was played on the clay court of Grabels, while the supporting club, the ASCH, had announced its withdrawal from the organization after eighteen editions. It will therefore be part of the challenges of this mandate to find another place, another date, another surface?, within the Montpellier metropolitan area. “We hope to be able to find a solution to organize a women's competition for the 2026 edition. Where and when? It remains an enigma.”
