The good understanding is immediately displayed between the two men. Hug, we call each other by first name, “Bruno is a friend“, “the work initiated by Laurent is remarkable“. The Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, and Laurent Wauquiez exchange pleasantries this Friday, November 22 arounda theme that is dear to both of them, security. Visit to the new Bas-en-Basset gendarmerie brigade, the Monistrol-sur-Loire municipal police station and visit to the Éveil building, which will house the future Puy-en-Velay police station.
The “security shield”: “just what we want to do”
The opportunity for the minister to salute the system launched by the region (formerly led by Laurent Wauquiez before being elected deputy for Haute-Loire in July): the “security shield”. It is “exactly what we want to do” as part of the plan to restore everyday tranquility, assures Bruno Retailleau. “I am here so that, everywhere in France, we know that this experiment with the shield works, it will work and we would like to generalize it elsewhere in France.“
This experiment with 32 surveillance cameras, installed in sixteen points in the territory, concerns 12 municipalities and 5 communities of municipalities in the department. It is supposed to help in the fight against delinquency “coming from the Loire and the Rhône”. Because, despite the good delinquency statistics in Haute-Loire recalled by the minister, Laurent Wauquiez fears “an expansion of drug trafficking and waves of burglaries in our rural areas“. The elected official is also considering extending this system to other departments in the region, notably Drôme.
No cameras installed yet
At the time of this trip, no camera is installed yet. The system will not be effective for a few months, at best. Some concerned elected officials do not expect to receive their cameras before mid-2025.
