Situation difficile

The mayor describes a difficult situation for his constituents. “We have had no electricity since last night, around 6 p.m. For the moment, I have no news from the prefecture regarding a return to normal,” he explains. The cut has major consequences on the daily lives of residentswith repercussions piling up.

“We no longer have SFR, no more Bouygues, landline telephony has been unusable for a week, after a cable theft. Residents must use the Orange network if they can,” continues Guillaume Julien.

No school or doctors

This outage also paralyzes essential services. There nursing home and school are closed, just like the shops basic necessities, such as the grocery store, bakery and butcher. In the absence of power, most homes also find themselves without heating.

Local officials face additional obstacles in coordinating their efforts. “We can't communicate with each other. Even our WhatsApp loop, which we usually use, does not work properly,” confides the mayor. He adds that Enedis and the prefecture have not yet provided information on the origin of the outage or a possible recovery time. “I suppose thatbranch kicking on the power lines, caused by snow, could be the cause, but this is only a hypothesis,” he explains.

90% by Saturday

The Enedis communications department, which we obtained by telephone between two crisis meetings, estimates a return of electricity at the latest this weekend, without other local precision : “A thousand people are currently hard at work throughout Normandy. We expect to have power back on to 90% of customers by Saturday evening. The rest should be restored by Sunday evening. » Hoping that it will be sooner for everyone.

Patience et prudence

In this context, the party room was opened to offer some comfort to residents. “We can offer heating and a few chairs, but not much more,” admits Guillaume Julien. The fire station did not record any major interventions.

The mayor invites residents to show patience. “We hope to be able to provide information quickly, but the situation is particularly difficult with the simultaneous absence of electricity, telephone and Internet. » He also calls for prudenceparticularly on the roads, due to the numerous falling trees. For now, the priority remains to ensure the safety of residents while waiting for the crisis to be resolved.
