Haiti summons French ambassador after remarks by Emmanuel Macron deemed “unacceptable”

The Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced this Thursday, November 21, 2024, that it had summoned the French ambassador after comments judged unacceptable of French President Emmanuel Macron.

In a video filmed on the sidelines of the G20 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and broadcast this Wednesday on social networks, the head of state accused Haitian officials of being “completely stupid” after the dismissal of Prime Minister Garry Conille by the Haitian presidential transition council on November 10.

French Ambassador Antoine Michon recognizes “unfortunate comments”

In its press release, the Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that the head of Haitian diplomacy, Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, informed French diplomat Antoine Michon on Thursday afternoon of the indignation of the Transitional Power at what it considers to be an unfriendly and inappropriate gesture which deserves to be rectified.

The press release adds that the French ambassador recognized that these were unfortunate comments.

A letter of protest addressed to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot was given to the ambassadorstill according to the press release.

Emmanuel Macron responded in this video, according to his entourage, to a Haitian who questioned him insistently by accusing him and to be responsible for the situation in Haitiplagued by political, security, socio-economic and humanitarian crises.
