There was excitement on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, in the hall of the Essonne Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Évry-Courcouronnes. On the occasion of the European Week for the Employment of People with Disabilities (SEEPH), Ladapt Essonne y organized the 9th edition of the employment and disability meetings of the department.

A job dating with more than 150 job offers

After a morning dedicated to companies and employment partners ( Travail, Cap Emploi, MDPH, etc.) which was structured around a conference and two interactive workshops, more than 200 people with disabilities looking for work participated in the Handicafé in the afternoon, a job dating with more than 150 job offers, mainly on permanent and fixed-term contracts.

As in transport, you sometimes had to slalom to make your way between the different stands. And for good reason, quickly, queues were formed in front of the tables of the employers present, including Carrefour, Intersport, Randstad, Renault, Ikea, Velux, CPAM 91 and Transgourmet.

A highlight for Ladapt Essonne, but which only representspart of his action in favor of the integration of people with disabilities.

Social and professional support

“Ladapt has developed throughout France, in a more or less differentiated manner. In certain territories, action is focused on rehabilitation. In Essonne, we are more of a platform oriented towards social and professional support »explains Julia Denis, business partnership development manager for Ladapt Essonne.

Located in Évry-Courcouronnes, the platform which employs 65 employees, welcomes disabled people who come to assess their abilities and possibilities on a social and professional project.

“Almost all of the people we support suffer from handicap invisible such as DYS disorders, psychological disorders, but also the after-effects of a head trauma or a stroke,” explains Julia Denis.

More than 500 people supported each year

Thanks to skills assessments and internships, the people supported develop a professional or training project to work in an ordinary environment or in a work support establishment and service (Esat).

“We also have an Esat outside the wall. That is to say, workers with disabilities, employees of the Esat outside the wall who will work under a secondment contract within an ordinary company, who can then choose to hire the person permanently,” explains Julia Denis.

Each year, Ladapt Essonne supports a total of more than 500 people and the number of requests for support is not weakening, on the contrary.

There are, at the same time, new pathologies which are recognized as being disabling, but also more life accidents and a change in mentality with people who are less reluctant to be supported by structures specializing in disability.

A new space dedicated to digital professions

Since the end of September, Ladapt Essonne has had a new space in Évry-Courcouronnes dedicated to digital professions thanks to financial support of 25,000 euros from the Foundation.
It strengthens the structure's technical workshop which allowed employees to support beneficiaries in discovering and strengthening skills in craft trades such as carpentry.
“We needed to develop a digital practice so that people who have a background with us emerge with skills in promising professions,” underlines Julia Denis.
Ladapt Essonne now has several computers, a 3D printer and even a laser cutter.
“In the same way as craft professions, the people we support can practice using these IT tools and see if they have a particular appetite that they would like to develop.” continues the business partnership development manager.
Like a fab lab, the space is open to other external structures as well as to people with disabilities who are not supported by Ladapt.

People supported by Ladapt stay on average three to six months. If the support does not always lead to lasting integration into the labor market, people manage to integrate into an ordinary environment or in ESAT.

For certain people who suffer from significant disorders, the ordinary environment remains too demanding, too stressful, despite these people's desire to work.

“A real interest from businesses”

Working in the field of integration of disabled people for many years, Julia Denis has observed a change within companies on this question.

15 years ago, companies were only interested in it to meet the legal obligation and not have to pay the financial contribution. Today, we see that there is a real and growing interest, particularly in the context of a CSR (corporate social responsibility) approach.

However, despite the good will of certain companies, recruitment difficulties remain often due to a mismatch between demand and supply, particularly for profiles with high levels of qualifications.

A new project in favor of those furthest from employment

For its part, Ladapt Essonne is working on a new project, a sort of preparatory class for people with disabilities who are far from employment.

“There are people who come to us, but who are not yet ready to start a professional project, either because they lack interpersonal skills, or because they have never worked or, a very long time ago. We wish remobilize these people over a few months in a pre-orientation course,” summarizes Julia Denis.

Work for better inclusion of people with disabilities in the professional world is therefore far from finished.
