Closed since 2020 due to the presence of asbestos, the Tour de Bretagne, an emblematic building located in the city center of Nantes since the 1970s, is getting a makeover. The project was unveiled this Thursday, November 21.
Among the activities in the tower: 240 housing units, a 4 star hotel 102 rooms, a restaurant, a cultural space, a coworking place of 1,000 m² or even a panoramic viewpoint accessible free of charge and which will allow you to have a 360 degree view of the city.
No more dark and brown appearance, the Tower will adopt a clear, sober and elegant silhouette. “We chose a lightweight facade material – recycled aluminum – dont the hue will change depending on the orientation and brightness“, explained Philippe Chiambaretta, architect of PCA-Stream, during the press conference presenting the project.
A reduced carbon footprint
To limit the carbon footprint of the new rehabilitated building, biosourced or reused materialsnotably recycled aluminum and stone, will be favored. The future Tour de Bretagne should also be connected to the urban heat network, of renewable origin. “The project provides for numerous developments allowing promote biodiversitycurrently non-existent on the sitespecifies the city of Nantes. Several roofs will be vegetated et the facade of the hotel decorated with climbing plants and nest boxes for birds and beetles.“
The construction will begin with a stage of asbestos removal from the building, in 2025. The end of the work is scheduled for 2029.
