After the abandonment by the Bigard company, the renovated and more versatile Auscitain slaughterhouse will now start again on good foundations and meet the demand of many Gers breeders
The brand new slaughter line dedicated to pigs, sheep and goats (Poc) at the Auch slaughterhouse entered the testing and adjustment phase this week and will quickly enter normal operation, confirmed the management of 3A-Gers, manager of the establishment.
Started last May, the modernization work at the Auch slaughterhouse aimed to open the establishment specializing in the slaughter of cattle to other species raised in the region. “This strategic objective is at the heart of the economic development policy that we carry out to secure local agricultural sectors and encourage the development of a local agri-food industry,” explains Bernard Pensivy, president of the Grand Auch Cœur de Gascogne agglomeration.
Highly awaited by breeders in the department, the operation supported by the company Alliance Abattoir Auch-Gers (3A-Gers) represents an investment of 1.7 million euros financed from own funds with the support of the State, the Occitanie region, the Department of Gers, the Grand Auch Cœur de Gascogne agglomeration and almost all of the communities of communes in the department, partners convinced of the merits of this project to secure the breeding sectors established in their respective territories.
The opening of this Poc chain will contribute to making this central site for the Gers and neighboring departments a real “meat hub” serving the entire agri-food sector, but also the development of short sectors, highly anticipated by many farmers.
“This is an important step in the plan that we have developed with all local partners and the active support of the State and the prefect of Gers, to consolidate the slaughterhouse and ensure its long-term profitability,” adds Bernard Pensivy.
Owner of the establishment, the Grand Auch Cœur de Gascogne agglomeration remains attentive and continues to provide its support throughout the launch period of this new activity. “We also expect the agricultural profession to continue to mobilize by inviting all breeders in the region to use this modern, efficient tool close to home,” concludes the president of the agglomeration.
