The president David Marguerie, explains: “Due to climatic conditions current and future, we have made the decision to cancel the 2024 edition. Above all, we wish guarantee the safety of participants et volunteers. Our event, which takes place for the benefit of the AFM-Téléthon, is above all a popular eventappreciated by all, and must stay in good conditions. »
Six months of preparation
Created in 2009 this demonstration was initially reserved for employees et retiredfrom the Maîtres Laitiers du Cotentin company, attracting around a hundred participants.
In 2011Éliane Gravey, an employee of the company and departmental coordinator of the AFM-Téléthon, proposed to open the event to the general public. Since then, the number of participants has continued to increase:
We went from 150 to 700, then to 1,300 participants.
After six months of preparation the organizing committee, composed of 11 members, had expanded the range of coursesfor this 2024 edition.
“For the VTT and new 25 km routewas added, completing those of 35 and 46 km. For the trail a distance of 14 km has been integrated into the 7 and 21 km courses. THE walkers could choose a new route of 18 km, in addition to those of 15, 12 and 9 km. The VTC circuit has been maintained at 17 km. Finally, the people with reduced mobilityand strollers could hike a 5 km route,” specifies the president, visibly disappointed by this cancellation.
Objective of €100,000
Since its creation, the Maîtres Laitiers have supported this event by taking charge of logistics and infrastructureall located on the private domain of the company .
With the 80 volunteers, we hoped to cross the €100,000 mark this year (in total) by donating all of the proceeds to the AFM-Téléthon. In addition, local associations, such as Les P'tits Sots de Sottevast and the rural center of Rocheville, joined forces with us to offer sausages, fries, pancakes and buckwheat porridge.
“We will meet to decide whether we should reporterthe 2024 edition in the calendar while taking care not to encroach on other events. We will think about it and we will communicateon this subject,” concludes David Marguerite, the president, somewhat dejected, but not resigned.
