This Tuesday, the police of Thouars (Deux-Sèvres) got their hands on a young man after several days of investigation. This was opened following two graffitied swastikas discovered on the walls of the city center. The accused admitted the facts, report our colleagues from France Blue.
For several days, the police dissected the video surveillance images of the streets adjoining those of Thouars and Saint-Jean-Thouars to find the author of the Nazi symbols painted pink. Their patience finally paid off. The suspect, aged 19, was found.
Sentenced to community service
In police custody, the young man confessed everything. He is indeed at the origin of these swastikas that he drew on the evening of October 31 during the Halloween festivities. The individual still had difficulty explaining his gesture, calling him “stupid” himself.
Such an act is severely punished in France. For this type of case, the Penal Code provides for a fine of up to 1,500 euros. This type of incitement to hatred can also be punished by one year of imprisonment and a fine of up to 45,000 euros. However, unknown to the justice system, the suspect only received community service for a duration of 70 hours.
