1 in 1,000 babies born in France with a hearing disorderhowever, in Manche, there are few hearing care professionals who offer devices and monitoring for hearing-impaired children.

In Granville, the associate manager of François Audition, Alexandre Perrot, decided to specialize in this area, “so that parents no longer need to drive 1 hour 15 minutes for each appointment”.

The only ones looking after children in the South Channel?

In June 2024, audioprosthetist Alexandre Perrot graduated from a DU in Child Audiophonology, training that he was keen to complete. He explains: “I wanted to be able to offer screening and fitting for children, because there is very little choice in Manche, and families are often forced to go back and forth to Caen or Rennes. In the South Channel, I think that today, we are the only ones to specialize in this field. »

Obviously, adults of all ages are also welcomebut the store team has invested in toys, to distract the little ones and be able to take care of them more easily. Colorful, patterned or glitter stickersare also proposed to make wearing a hearing aid less restrictive.

Get screened at an early age

In order to avoid poor development of language and understanding, Alexandre Perrot advises you to have your child tested as soon as possible and at the slightest doubt, because the earlier the child is taken into care, “the less language difficulties he will have”.

Several symptoms, according to the latter, can be synonymous with a hearing problem. Noticing a dysfunction in a child under two years old can be complicated, but if the latter “lacks reaction to the call of his name or to certain noises, such as the horn of a car, it can be a sign.”

Less than 30 minutes for screening

For those over two years old, if the child speaks littleand has difficulty forming syllables, consult. “If we don’t hear well, we can’t reproduce sounds,” explains the specialist.

As a reminder, screening is free for alland “lasts less than 30 minutes”.
