Cataneo Depression – report of the day – News

Updated on 21/11/2024

The Catanéo depression affected Finistère during the night of November 20 to 21, 2024. Its effects continued mainly this morning (wind gusts, sometimes snowy precipitation making the roadway slippery and potentially dangerous in certain areas).

Thursday November 21 at 8 p.m., we count 106 interventions of the SDIS

Departmental fire and rescue service in connection with the climatic event for:

– falling trees on public roads (50),

– flooding in homes (16),

– flooding in establishments open to the public (ERP) (5),

– fallen electrical wires (4)

– various interventions (31) (reconnaissance, falling of materials, etc.).

Among the 5 ERPs, a daycare center in had to be closed for the day. The children were quickly taken care of by their families.

Two minor injuries are to be deplored in Nevez (fall of tree on a vehicle) and Douarnenez (fall of street furniture). In Poullan-sur-mer, a tree also fell on a car, without causing any injuries.

1500 ENEDIS customers remain without electricity this evening, mainly in the south of the department. ENEDIS teams are mobilized to restore power as quickly as possible.

Delays were noted on the rail lines.

The traffic bans put in place from 6 a.m. today and the storage obligations were lifted at 11 a.m. In total, between 6 a.m. and the end of the morning, 81 heavy goods vehicles were stored in Carhaix (RN 164) and 87 in Plouigneau (RN12). This operation was carried out without incident.

On all axes of the national road network (national roads and motorways) for vehicles over 7.5T GVW (total authorized weight) as well as for motorhomes and light vehicles coupled with light trailers, caravans or others:

– overtaking maneuvers are prohibited;

– the maximum authorized speed is lowered by 20 km/h.

The department will once again be on alert yellow snow ice from 10 p.m. this evening until 10 a.m. tomorrow morning.

In this context, the prefect of Finistère, Alain ESPINASSE, recalls certain recommendations for caution:

  • be careful when traveling : anticipate risks by significantly reducing your speed on the roads;
  • be attentive if you practice activities sensitive to weather risks;
  • be careful with space heaters. Check their compatibility with indoor use and do not use them if you have any doubt about the conformity of their operation (risk of emitting carbon monoxide which is an odorless and deadly gas).
