the Monchy-Lagache school will find a calmer situation in 2024

The refusal of the municipality of Athies to join the Monchy-Lagache school group or even tensions around extracurriculars ? ” It's ancient historyannounce the members of Sivos, the managing body of the concentrated educational group of Monchy-Lagache. They want to turn the page on these complicated beginnings and look towards the future.

The Est social center has resumed after-school activities

But first, there is the present: 121 students from small section up to CM² grouped into six classes, while the structure is capable of accommodating up to 180. But also a modern and recent structure (March 2020, just before the arrival of covid) “which has been designed to welcome children in good conditions and where we find high-end furniture “, announces Stéphane Floquet, director of the Est Somme social center,

For this school year, the structure has taken over the management of the canteen and after-school activities since September. “Today, the climate is peaceful “, he added. “There is trust between the different actors and the first assessment after two months of activities is positive. We have pulled out all the stops to reassure families and respond to a problem.”

121 students on the Monchy-Lagache site

In terms of figures, 75 children today eat in the canteen on average, and around twenty children are enrolled in extracurricular activities for around ten facilitators and canteen advisors. “All people are qualified and qualified who have their BAFA and have training related to hygiene (HACCP), explains Stéphane Floquet.

Concerning prices, we decided to stay on the same level so as not to upset families. It is also a choice of Sivos to maintain the existing prices.” And in terms of entertainment? ” We (the social center) have invested in €2,500 worth of new teaching materials (sports equipment, balls, balance bikes, etc.).”

Convince neighboring municipalities

The only cause for concern therefore remains the insufficient number of students to enable partner municipalities to cope with the financial cost of managing the site.

Mayor of Monchy-Lagache, Jacques Pinchon is optimistic that children from other neighboring municipalities will join the structure, despite some pitfalls: “It's complicated because we have certain interested municipalities which are not in the same community of municipalities, and the children will not go to the same college after primary school. This requires a different organization while national education has a rather strict vision of things… “.

It also counts on the expected disappearance of small rural structures placed in intercommunal educational groups (schools on several sites) for the benefit of municipal educational groups (a single site in a town or village). “These small communities will have to think and make a choice: build on a single building or join another already existing structure… “.

The mayor confirms that several elected officials from neighboring municipalities visited the Monchy-Lagache site during the open days and obtained information on the feasibility of the project. “At the structural and logistical level (number of buses, parking lots, etc.), we are ready “.

The arrival of the crèche, good news

But the first good news, in the short term, is that Monchy-Lagache attracts new residents following the announcement of the arrival of an intercommunal crèche. “Since the project was confirmed, I have already had four people come to see me to build their house in Monchy-Lagache. It makes things happen “, announces the local elected official.

On the progress of the project, Jacques Pinchon adds: “We are currently studying the architect's proposals and calling for tenders. And normally, the crèche must be completed by the end of 2025. There are also plans to create a new car park and an additional exit.”
