On the institutional side, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) announced, in a press release published this Thursday, November 21, a series of steps to shed light on this death. The ARS confirmed that a serious adverse event (SAE) was declared on November 11 by CHOG, triggering a thorough investigation. A Mortality and Morbidity Review (MMR) is underway and will have to report its conclusions by November 30, 2024. This analysis aims to identify possible dysfunctions in medical care and to formulate recommendations.
Since July, the family of Jeannine Phanis has deplored a lack of clarity on the facts. Thanks to their efforts and the support of ADUCHOG, the medical report linked to his visit to the emergency room was sent at the beginning of November. This document marks a first step, but expectations remain high.
Romain Brochard, interim director general of ARS Guyana, welcomed the transparency efforts made by CHOG and its director, Ninon Gautier. “This commitment illustrates the importance given to the quality of care and listening to users”he underlined, while recalling that the safety of care and respect for patients' rights are absolute priorities.
