Since its opening on September 2, the Mazan rape trial has occupied a prominent place in French and international news. The facts are extraordinary and particularly sordid. Dominique Pelicot, the main accused, is being prosecuted for having drugged, raped and had his wife, Gisèle Pelicot, raped by dozens of strangers encountered on the site Coco.fr, between 2011 and 2020. Investigators have recorded 200 rapes and are managed to identify 50 authors. All of them, as well as Dominique Pelicot, are tried before the Vaucluse criminal court and risk up to twenty years of criminal imprisonment.
