The snow is gradually settling in France. Since the beginning of the morning Thursday November 21, 2024more than 50 departments are placed on Orange alert. Most are for snow and ice.
But in Haute-Savoie, it's for the ve²nt that Météo-France has activated vigilance.
Concrete risks of avalanches
THE gusts the most important ones are expected between 4 p.m. and 12 a.m. “A wind is expected in the plains reaching 90 to 100/110 km/h in gusts and locally reaching up to 120 km/h. The wind will be stronger on the reliefs, reaching more than 150 km/h on the highest points of the Alps,” specifies the prefecture.
According to the institution, there are big risks avalanches. “As of tomorrow afternoon, Haute-Savoie is placed on orange wind alert and the Mont-Blanc massif is at avalanche risk of 4 out of 5 by Météo-France. In the Mont-Blanc massif, spontaneous departures occur above 1800/2000m. As snow falls, the size of avalanches increases (size 2 and 3). Below 1800/2000m, avalanches are also possible but of more modest size (size 1 and rarely size 2).
The Haute-Savoie prefecture encourages people to do extremely attention for the practice of all activities of montagne and mainly ski or snowshoe hikes, whatever your level.
