After Storm Kirk a month ago, Caetano hit Vendée and Loire-Atlantique this Thursday, November 21. With powerful winds, reaching up to 134 km/h at the tip of Chemoulin, this second storm of the fall nevertheless spared the departments from significant damage according to emergency services.
Impressive gusts on the Atlantic coast
According to France Bleu, Météo Ciel recorded spectacular gusts: 119 km/h in Saint-Nazaire et 106 km/h on the island of Yeu. The violent winds were particularly strong in the morning, putting the region's infrastructure and vegetation to the test.
Limited activity for relief in Vendée
In Vendée, firefighters carried out less than ten interventions, mainly for tree falls and operations of roof covering. Municipal technical services were called upon to clear branches that had fallen on the roads, with around fifteen similar interventions.
The affected municipalities are spread across the entire department: Epessesin the bocage, at Avrillépassing through Petossein the south, and Rives-de-l'Onein the Yonnais region. The damage remains minor and has no major consequences for residents.
Restrictions on the Noirmoutier bridge
Due to strong gusts, traffic on the Noirmoutier bridge was prohibited for vehicles over 2 meters in height. This safety measure aims to avoid any risk for users until the winds subside.
An autumn marked by storms
Caetano adds to a series of disturbances which marked this fall of 2024. Although emergency services have not reported any serious incident, these powerful winds remind us of the importance of remaining vigilant during such weather episodes. Short-term forecasts give hope for an easing of conditions in the coming hours.
