A school in Magny-le-Hongre (Seine-et-Marne) could close its doors next year. According to an article from The Marne published Wednesday November 20, 2024, this is for the moment only a hypothesis from the town hall, which explains that the establishment's numbers are decreasing. It is already very likely that one of its four classes will close at the start of the 2025 school year.
While waiting to find out more, the parents of the students have already set up a petition. According to our colleagues, it quickly collected hundreds of signatures. They all want to keep this school which is, according to them, a “pillar of the community facilitating stronger ties between neighborhood families”.
Parents incomprehension
They also assure that they do not understand the municipality's decision. “We are the most dynamic sector in the city”declares the representative of the parents, referring to the numerous construction projects that will come to fruition in the coming years. More than 80 new homes are expected to be built by the end of the year.
In connection with these real estate projects, the town hall had announced the anticipated arrival of 39 children for the next school year. A number which has been significantly revised downwards. “Of the first 40 homes delivered, the school welcomed three children. There are 40 left, but I don't expect much more.”explains Véronique Flament, the mayor of the town, in the columns of the weekly.
