Like every Monday morning, the mayor and his secretary meet at the town hall for a morning of duty. This is where we find Thierry Zimmermann, as well as Ghislain Goeuriot, his first deputy. The two men have worked to “beautify the town” in recent years despite a very tight budget of around €100,000.

Homemade work
“We redid the entrance to the cemetery in 2022 and the entrance to the town hall. We also renovated the apartment above the town hall,” lists the mayor. “We both renovated it ourselves to save money,” explains Ghislain Goeuriot. Being a handyman: a major asset as mayor or elected official in a small village of 120 inhabitants. As for the improvement work, “we do it based on ideas and subsidies too”. Because let's not forget, municipal projects depend on aid. And they are getting smaller as time goes on. “For the development of the toilets for example, we obtained a subsidy of €40,000 from the community of municipalities, but the prefecture rejected our request for a subsidy for 2024 which represents €96,000. We must therefore wait until 2025 to relaunch a request and be able to start the work. »
“Two hollow teeth”
Another project on hold: the development of the city stadium at the entrance to the village. The work is estimated at €34,000 excluding tax. Once again, “we request help from Interco (€10,000) and the Department (€9,000), and we take care of the rest”. And then, there are the pending projects over which the municipality has no control at all. Like these two abandoned farms, the “two hollow teeth” of the town. “One of the two was demolished two years ago. We got in touch with real estate agents, but the respective owners refuse to sell the land.” Nothing can be done. Regardless, the municipal team looks to the possibilities and plans to develop the church. Make it a party hall? Why not.
