For several weeks, the Rillieux public transport network has experienced major disruptions. The night of October 31 to 1is November saw the fire of two Sytral buses, on avenue Leclerc, in the heart of the Velette district.
Consequence: a total interruption of service for ten days. Traffic resumed on November 12, but the situation remains tense. Projectiles thrown at buses, which occurred on November 13 and 15, forced Sytral to suspend the circulation of lines C2, C5 and 33 in the Ville Nouvelle after 7 p.m. from November 16.
Monday November 18, Keolis postpones this suspension to 8 p.m. The termini were at the Charles-de-Gaulle roundabout, more than twenty minutes on foot from the Ville Nouvelle.
Vigilance always required
Faced with this violence, the Rhône prefecture and local authorities decided to strengthen security.
This police system is still in place. Consequently, Sytral announced, this Wednesday, November 20, on X, a normal resumption of traffic. Lines C2, C5 and 33 will run again until 1 a.m., allowing users to return to their usual habits.

If the return to normal is recorded, the situation in Rillieux remains sensitive. Tuesday, late in the afternoon, on Facebook, the mayor of the town and the president of the Metropolis discussed the subject. Following his line of communication, Alexandre Vincendet attacks the president of Sytral who, according to him, “deconstructs the public service” by limiting the circulation of lines C2, C5 and 33 until Tuesday. Under its text, a diagram illustrating the proposals of the city of Rillieux: “authorize municipal police officers to board Sytral buses to intervene if necessary” as well as the “connection of the bus alarm button to the urban surveillance center of Rillieux-la-Pape.
Bruno Bernard: “We have always favored cooperation and joint work”
A few hours later, a long comment signed by the president of Sytral was published. In this response to the mayor of Rillieux, Bruno Bernard explains: “We have always favored cooperation and common work, far from political controversies. This is clearly not your choice today.”
It also responds to the proposal from the town of Rillieux-la-Pape. “Since the 2016 law, your agents can legally act on public transport. In 2024, 15 joint actions were carried out. […] Drivers already have alert buttons allowing them to notify the competent authority depending on the location of the bus (municipal, national police or gendarmerie).”
After the storm, both in the streets and on the networks, the calm desired by residents is gradually returning, but still seems fragile.
