Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois and Ruba Ghazal may dream of power, but it will never happen.
As things currently stand, Québec solidaire cannot hope to govern Quebec, because the activists of the left party are activists.
In fact, the members of Québec solidaire do not really want power. They use their party to advance their ideals, but well beyond political ideas. Clearly, they do not want to do like the other parties.
However, that is the problem, because to play the political game, you have to follow the rules.
Governance
Even if some idealize politics and don’t like the way it works, we have no choice but to recognize that there are codes to follow.
A party cannot function the way QS currently does. We cannot have two people as co-spokespersons who do not really have the power to decide.
Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois has proposed pragmatism in recent months, but clearly, Québec solidaire is not ready to conform to the codes of modern politics.
The last few days have clearly demonstrated that the governance of Québec solidaire is not working. After the departure of Émilie Lessard-Therrien and the declarations of Haroun Bouazzi, it is obvious that QS is not at the end of its troubles, and all this will leave a bitter taste with voters.
QS will have difficulty making gains in 2026, this party does not demonstrate that it is inclusive and ready to govern.
Leave or stay?
In the coming weeks, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois will take paternity leave. This is undoubtedly a good decision for someone who will be a father for the second time.
Like my colleague Emmanuelle Latraverse, I believe that GND would benefit from thinking about its future. He undeniably has talent, but he is currently wasting it with Québec solidaire.
Quite honestly, Mr. Nadeau-Dubois deserves better, he should jump ship.
