Mr. The prefect of Haute-Corse, Michel Prosic, communicates:

Meteo services are keeping Haute-Corse on orange level meteorological vigilance for the “wind” parameter with immediate effect untilat 11:00 p.m as soon as possible.

Currently, from Balagne to Cap-Corse and the region the west to southwest wind is still blowing very strongly.

Gusts of wind still reach 150 km/h in Balagne, on Cap-Corse between 160 to 190 km/h, in the Bastia region of 120 to 140 km/h, in the mountains 130 km/h and in the south east of the island, by breaking at between 110 and 140 km/h.

At the end of the afternoon, at the height of the episode, we can still expect gusts of up to 120 to 150 km/h in the Bastia region and up to 160 km/h in exposed areas; on Cap Corse, gusts of up to 200 km/h, in Balagne and on the terrain between 120 to 150 km/h.

The winds should begin to weaken in the first part of the night while remaining quite strong on the Corsican Cape.

Land Prefect calls on everyone to exercise the greatest caution in the face of such phenomena which can be dangerous.La population is invited to follow the safety instructions to avoid any dangerous situation:

  • Avoid, as much as possible, travel,
  • Do not walk along the coastline,
  • Do not shelter under the trees,
  • Respect the diversions put in place,
  • Respect the instructions given by the security services,
  • Respect the ban on the use of fire, use is prohibited above 30km/h
  • Report the start of fires without delay,
  • Be vigilant against falling objects,
  • Store or secure objects sensitive to the effects of wind,
  • Do not touch electrical wires that have fallen to the ground,
  • Do not work on roofs,
  • Listen to the station RCFM and France3 Corse Via Stella.

In addition, this episode of violent winds creates a high risk of fire.

In this context, it is recalled that the use of fire is prohibited above 30km/h

This prohibition applies to everyone, including owners and their beneficiaries.

Violators of the ban order incur civil liability and are exposed to criminal prosecution.

To this end, the penal code provides for fines of up to 100,000 euros, as well as prison sentences.
