Ile-de-: level 2 of the Snow and Ice Plan activated, the prefecture calls for vigilance

Météo placed 49 departments on orange snow-ice alert this Thursday, December 21.

In Ile-de-France, the prefect has therefore activated level 2 of his Snow and Ice Plan.

As a precaution, the speed limit is lowered by 20 km/h and vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes cannot overtake.

The prefecture is taking precautions. On the eve of a day when snowfall is expected almost everywhere in France, and particularly in Ile-de-France, level 2 of the Snow and Ice Plan was activated in the region, this Thursday, November 21, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Faced with the risk that the weather could complicate road traffic, measures have been taken.

Speed ​​limit lowered

While the prefect called for vigilance, the speed limit will also be lowered by 20 km/h. Vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes will also be prohibited from overtaking. The Plan calls for being “they are careful and watchful” in case of travel and recommends favoring public transport.

By car, motorists are advised to bring minimum equipment (warm clothing, food, water, etc.) “in case you have to wait several hours on the road”to be attentive to the road surface in case of ice and to equip yourself with snow tires, if possible. “A car equipped with winter tires gains spectacularly in grip”recalls the prefecture in its press release announcing the Snow Plan.

Among the other regions concerned by the orange snow-ice vigilance, , in consultation with the prefectures, has “decided to suspend school and commercial transport lines” all day on November 21, 2024, in the departments of Orne, Manche, and Eure. The Manche prefecture, for its part, “recommends avoiding driving during snowfall.” In Center-Val de , Eure-et-Loir has also suspended school transport.
