10 years later, this town in Orne will host a major popular festival

Postponed due to the health crisis linked to Covid-19, the date has now been set. On September 5 and 6, 2026, the town of Tinchebray (Orne) will host the agricultural show of the district which extends to Domfront. “The last time was 10 years ago,” recalls Jérôme Nury during a preparatory meeting organized Monday November 18, 2024.

A little less than two years before the event, elected officials, technical services and volunteers are working on “a big party”. Float parade, Miss elections, agricultural competition, big raffle, fireworks…The streets promise to be lively!

Miss elections and floats on cinema

“It will be a double celebration, with a rather agricultural component on Saturday, and a festive one on Sunday,” begins Jérôme Nury, appointed to the steering committee of the event. The breeders of the canton are also called upon to mobilize to present “the beautiful beasts”.

These agricultural competitions will be associated with many festivities. “There will be Miss elections for as many villages as possible,” presents Jacques Besnard, also a member of the steering committee. “Moreover, several municipalities have already reserved the Colys'haie for the election of their Miss,” notes Josette Porquet.

Ultimately, a comic queen will be elected, and will be at the heart of the events with a float dedicated to her.

The floats will mark a highlight of the weekend, with a parade in town scheduled for Sunday. During the meeting, the volunteer neighborhoods and municipalities committed to building their own.

A dozen floats are currently planned, around a theme unanimously adopted: the cinema“this can refer to a profession or a film for example”, suggests Maxime Guilmin by starting a slogan, “the comice makes its cinema”.

Show, decoration, fireworks…

Beyond the giant constructionsactivities around the horse are mentioned. “If we could call on the Haras du Pin and equestrian associations local, that would be great,” continues Jacques Besnard in front of a packed council room.

Decoration of the city, fireworks on Sunday evening, presence of five or six musical groups and setting up of games are also envisaged by the various local actors. “There is already an atmosphere to organize this show,” agree Jacques Besnard and Catherine Aumont, who is piloting the agricultural part.

For the show, a budget of €70,000

The budget dedicated to this district meeting also found itself at the heart of the discussions. “The whole thing is estimated at €70,000. We had an envelope of €15,000 left from the last meeting, and we are going to look for sponsors for €25,000,” explains Jacques Besnard. The municipalities will also be involved.

A contribution of €3/inhabitant will be requested from the municipalities of the former canton.

Access for visitorsnamely entry and parking, will however be free. “Everyone has their role to play so that this great popular festival is successful,” concludes Jérôme Nury. Already, the outlines of the 2026 district election are emerging, tinged with general enthusiasm.
