Wild boars are numerous in Franche-Comté. It is not uncommon to see them on the side of roads or in fields. A little less often fortunately, in the middle of the village.

On Sunday, a resident of the town had time to take out his phone. It is indeed a wild boar crossing the small Riolais town.

I didn't see it right away. He stopped at the pedestrian crossing to let a truck pass. He looked left and right, like a child

Alexandre Kowalik, habitant de Rioz

According to this local resident who was leaving work, the animal weighed between 40 and 50 kilos.

“It’s near the campsite, he must have come from the forest and went up the rue la faïencerie. He crossed and had to walk along the sidewalk.” explains Nadine Wantz, mayor of the town of 2,400 inhabitants.

In the heart of the town, then in a housing estate, the passage of the animal did not cause any damage or incident. He had the merit of smiling on social networks.

“It’s good, even a wild boar can use a pedestrian crossing better than some people” reacts an Internet user. “Poor guy, he’s lost” worries another. “Not so stupid! Hunters are not allowed to shoot in town!”

In January 2024, another commune in Burgundy-Franche-Comté was crossed by wild boars. A whole family this time, 7 wild boars created a surprise in Cosne-sur- in Nièvre.

In February 2022, in Saint-Claude in the Jura, a wild boar got lost in town. The police went after him.
