Some residents of a building in Montesson (Yvelines) are fighting against a restaurant located at the foot of their building. Cooking odors that would reach homes pushed residents to take legal action, reports 78 Actu Monday November 18, 2024.
A cooking smell at the center of the dispute
The nuisance would have started with the opening of the Lebanese restaurant in March 2024. The main problem cited by residents is the persistent smell of cooking which would invade the courtyard and corridors of the residence.
According to the president of the union council, these odors come from the exhaust of the hood which is installed too close to the windows of other residents. Added to this would be noise from extractors and parking problems. Annoyed by the situation, the residents put together a file to present it to the courts.
For her part, the restaurateur claims to be in good standing, having received the approval of the health and safety commission on October 31. In order to ease tensions, she claims to have undertaken €50,000 worth of work. In vain. The restaurateur denounces the attitude of her neighbors, maintaining that certain residents have spread rumors about her restaurant, tried to intimidate her and scared away her customers. She would also have contacted a lawyer to initiate proceedings.
