Priest of Dordogne prosecuted for sexual assault: the victim filed a complaint for abuse suffered at the age of ten

He waited years before denouncing sexual assault that he suffered between the ages of 10 and 14 at the hands of a priest from Dordogne. A 36 year old man filed a complaint on May 16, 2023 against the man who is now the priest of Trélissac and Savignac-les-Églises. It is the public prosecutor of Périgueux who reveals this Tuesday, November 19 in a press release, two days later the withdrawal of the priest by the bishop of Périgueux and Sarlat.

Sexual assaults in hotels and within the presbytery

According to the thirty-year-old, the priest committed these sexual assaults within the presbytery of Montignac. This is where he was officiating at the time. The priest was a friend of the victim's parents. He is also accused of having abused him in hotels when traveling outside the department. These attacks were repeated over a period of four years, between 1997 and 2001, according to the testimony of the thirty-year-old.

A trial in March 2025

After more than a year of investigation, the priest will have to appear before the Périgueux criminal court on March 24, 2025. He will be tried for sexual assault on minors under 15 years of age per person exercising authority.

The announcement of the procedure targeting the priest, and his withdrawal, was made during mass this Sunday, in front of the faithful of the parishes of Saint-Louis-les-Deux-Rivières in Trélissac, and that of Saint- Jacques du Causse in Savignac-les-Églises. In his press release, the bishop recalls that a listening cell is made available to victims: [email protected] or by letter to the following postal address: Listening cell BP 10125 24005 Périgueux Cedex.
