Weather in . Snow on Thursday in Côtes d’Armor and Ille et Vilaine?

As winter knocks on our doors, could experience an episode of exceptional snowfall this Thursday, November 21, 2024. This rare phenomenon for the region, marked by a confrontation between cold and mild air masses, gives rise to numerous questions among meteorologists and residents.

First snowflakes from Wednesday night to Thursday

According to forecasts, the first snowfall could begin in Finistère during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. These flakes, carried by a depression circulating in the south of Brittany, would progress inland to reach the Monts d'Arrée, Côtes-d'Armor, Ille-et-Vilaine and the north of Morbihan.

Freezing temperatures predicted

Thursday morning, the thermometer will show temperatures close to 0°C in several Breton localities. , Fougères or even Loudéac could record negative values, while coastal towns like or Saint-Malo will benefit from relative mildness with 3 to 4°C. The wind, although moderate, will accentuate the feeling of cold.

If conditions hold, the departments of Côtes-d'Armor and Ille-et-Vilaine seem most likely to see snow stick to the ground. Accumulations of 2 to 5 centimeters are expected around Fougères, and the Rennes basin could also be covered with a light white coat. On the other hand, the south of Brittany, influenced by mild air currents, should escape this phenomenon, with temperatures around 10°C in .

An unstable weather scenario

Despite these predictions, uncertainty remains. In the middle of the day, a mild spell could transform the snow into rain or mixed precipitation, particularly in Finistère and the south of Ille-et-Vilaine. However, at the end of the afternoon, temperatures could drop again, bringing snowfall to these same areas.

With the forecast showers, a risk of icy conditions can be expected on roads that remain wet. Motorists are urged to exercise caution, particularly in rural areas and secondary roads.

This brief winter episode is not expected to last, however. From Saturday, a radical change is expected with a spectacular warm spell. Maximum temperatures could reach 15°C or more, thanks to a wind turning south/southwest.
